Fine Art by Karen Knorr

Karen Knorr was born in Frankfurt, Germany, was raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and finished her education in Paris and London.

Since her life-changing journey to Rajasthan in 2008, Karen Knorr’s most recent work, ‘India Song’ explores Rajput and Mughal cultural heritage and its relationship to questions of feminine subjectivity and animality. The photographs explores the past and its relation to India’s contemporary heritage sites across Rajasthan and each finished photograph is both a mystery and a fable – referencing both the vast tradition of picturing animals in art along with the western appreciation of eastern culture and form.

The photographs engage two formal constants – first the insertion by digital means of the animal subject within the consistently frontal interior photograph and secondly the pose or action expressed.

This work reveals the relationship with the “other” through the use of photography.

An amazing work!
